Whether you were suddenly transferred to a new city and need a place to live quickly, you’re waiting until a home is finished being built, or you are temporarily working in a new location, renting a short term furnished apartment is a great solution. Corporate apartments offer the ease and convenience of a hotel, but the amenities, space, and pricing of an apartment. However, with the highly contagious nature of COVID-19, are short-term apartments safe? To help you understand more about how to effectively clean and disinfect areas as well as what we’re doing to keep our renters safe and healthy, we’re walking you through our cleaning practices.

CDC Guidelines for Cleaning and Disinfecting

The coronavirus is primarily spread through person-to-person contact, typically from spaces less than six feet away. While there haven’t been documented cases in which a person for certain got sick due to contact with a contaminated surface, it can’t be ruled out as a method of transmission.

To increase precaution, the Center for Disease Control (CDC) has recently updated their recommendations for cleaning and disinfecting to stop the spread of COVID-19, especially because current evidence suggests that the virus can survive for hours, and in some cases, even days, on a variety of materials. That’s why it’s important to be vigilant when it comes to cleaning and disinfecting.

General Recommendations for Routine Cleaning and Disinfecting

In the home, cleaning high-traffic surfaces will remove germs, dirt, and impurities, then, following that with an EPA-registered disinfectant to kill viruses and germs is one of the most important steps to staying healthy after washing your hands frequently and maintaining social distance.

High-traffic surfaces include:

  • Light switches
  • Doorknobs
  • Handles and drawers
  • Tables and desktops
  • Toilets
  • Faucets
  • Remote controls
  • Cell phones
  • Laptop/Computer keyboards & mice/trackpads

Common EPA-registered disinfectants include:

  • Fantastik® All Purpose Cleaner
  • Scrubbing Bubbles® Disinfectant Bathroom Grime Fighter
  • Windex Disinfectant Cleaner
  • Lysol® Disinfecting Wipes
  • Clorox Multi-Surface Cleaner + Bleach
  • Clorox Clean Up Cleaner + Bleach
  • Lysol Disinfectant Spray

These are just a handful of options, and if a disinfectant cleaner isn’t available, spraying a surface with rubbing alcohol that’s at least 70% or a bleach solution of four teaspoons of bleach to 32 ounces of water.

Cleaning Temporary Apartments

At Corporate Accommodations, we do everything we can to keep our temporary apartments and corporate housing safe and available to the community.

Getting Apartments Ready

After a renter moves out and prior to a new renter moving in, we follow CDC guidelines to ensure each space is clean and sanitized. This includes:

  • Every mattress and foundation is sprayed with a disinfectant;
  • Upholstery products are shampooed and disinfected;
  • Remote controls and other surfaces are thoroughly sanitized;
  • All linens are commercially laundered in house using proper cleaning methods;
  • Dish-ware, silverware and glassware are sanitized with a high-temperature dishwasher;

Cleaning Occupied Apartments

We continue to offer commercial housekeeping service through a third-party provider. They make sure to follow CDC guidelines also, and staff members take care to wear protective gear both for their own benefits and for yours.

Delivery & Pickup

We have a warehouse for furnishings and other items, and before anything is delivered, we make sure all items are cleaned and sanitized per our Standard Operating Procedures.

Cleaning Public Areas in Apartment Buildings

While we always strive to ensure the gym facilities, club houses, and pool areas are clean and sanitary in order to provide a safe, healthy experience, until it is safe to do so, several of the public spaces on the properties are closed. This includes:

  • Clubhouses and office areas
  • Business centers
  • Fitness centers
  • Pools

The pet parks and package locker access are still open, and we are also receiving and honoring service requests.
